Episode 15 – Navigating the Blitz with Intox
Could you please introduce yourself and share one intriguing fact about yourself that might surprise others?
I get the ladies to call me daddy but you guys can call me Intox, Tob Brady, or the GOAT. Little backstory on Tob Brady, it was originally a typo but it stuck so we ran with it. I think people would be surprised to know that I play blitz with my monitor turned off, I just play on sound cues. Also, I fly planes for a living which is pretty cool I guess.
Are you currently playing any other games? Additionally, what is your favorite game of all time?
A lot of games live in my steam library, but I have a few that I always go back to. I play a lot of Counter-Strike 2, used to be top 100 NA, but also play games like Slay the Spire, XDefiant, Valorant, BattleBit, and other shooters. I think the Counter-Strike series has to be my favorite all time.
Which football team do you support and what motivates your choice?
My childhood didn’t really involve much exposure to football, but I think I could get away with saying my team is the Dolphins. I lived in Florida until I was 8, and went to a few baseball games in Miami which at the time the NFL and MLB teams shared the stadium (I think).
How did you first come across Blitz? Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge who has mentored you along the way?
Huge shoutout to WCK and Dan always giving me tips to improve my game. Also my teammates Phin and Wayne definitely helped me improve my game because they’re always slacking, especially Wayne. I think the last time he messed up he blamed his car windows, and I think I pieced together the story. We were in a league game and he was sitting in his car playing Blitz, when a big booty latina walked by. He unabashedly started starring at her butt but accidentally rolled down his tinted windows so that it was obvious that he was starring, and he panicked and missed the boost button and subsequently the touchdown. On another note, I discovered Blitz randomly one day looking through the Brood War Use Map Settings lobbies, and just kinda stuck around since then.
The Spring Fever Tournament marked one of your initial major appearances in competition. What stands out most in your memory from that event and how did you perceive the level of competition?
I honestly don’t remember the Spring Fever Tournament at all, I think most people know I took a break for like a month or so, and during that time I definitely forgot a lot about Blitz and what I’ve done/learned. I definitely had to shake off the rust when I came back for this season.
When you began playing Blitz, many observed a rapid development in your skills, particularly in learning the quarterback role faster than many seasoned players. What factors do you believe contributed to your swift learning and adaptation?
My skills definitely came about 50% naturally, then 50% through actually learning how to play. A lot of this game has unteachable “feeling” and intuition elements to it, so it’s really hard to convey those things across to a new player. On the other hand, if we read Sin’s Guide to Starting Out, I kinda hit step 1 of getting baited by Cutty, then never really progressed from there. I’ve had a 5 minute session in WCK’s Training Academy, a few games studying the Q&A Legend, and maybe a game or two with Teeoh.

It must have been challenging to go undrafted on auction draft night. What were your thoughts during that time, and how did it feel when Phin subsequently signed you?
Both me and my agent knew that even if I didn’t get drafted, I’d get picked up pretty quickly as a free agent. I think now people realize that they were sleeping on a good pick, but that’s just the story of Tob Brady isn’t it?
What has been your experience playing alongside Phin, Wayne, and BlueSquid? Are there any particular insights or observations about the team you’d like to share?
A lot of people may say that I’m getting carried by Wayne and Phin, but I only half agree with that statement. Phin is definitely helpful, getting me good passes and routes that cater to my skillset, so huge shoutout to him. Wayne on the other hand sometimes struggles on defense and offense, constantly coming up with excuses. Phin and I always have to make sure Wayne is in game day mode, calling him out on his mistakes so he knows he can’t just put on autopilot and mindlessly cruise through the game.
“Phin is definitely helpful…”
You’ve delivered several strong performances this season. Which game do you consider your best and what made it stand out?
Based on stats, I think the Week 5 game versus Huevos Picantes is my “best” game, but I feel like the Week 4 game versus Monopoly Men was the one I feel like I did the best. It was my breakout game where I actually played a full game and was able to show the league what I had in the tank.
The race for the ROTY award is intensifying between you and MA, who also excels as a WR and DE for Huevo Picantes. What are your thoughts on MA’s performance? Do you believe you are more deserving of the ROTY award?
You know, I’ve heard a lot about MA’s ROTY campaign, and granted some of the stats he’s doing better than me. However, I’d just like to point out two things. Firstly, I have 4 games played in the stats page, but really its 2 full games and 2 halves. I think in terms of per minute production, I’m doing better than him, but it just took a while for Phin to see who the real starter should be. Hopefully he’s figured it out by now. Secondly, I just want to point at the Blitz Overall Stats published recently, where I’m sitting at #4. I’d like to emphasize some people that are below me, like BlueSquid, Wayne, WCK, and then way down there with a yellow 81, MA. That’s all I really have to say about that.
