Mid-Season Captain Interviews

Greetings Blitz Enthusiasts!

I wanted to give our Season 3 captains a mid-year interview. These questions were asked after the Week 4 games and provides some interesting and unique insight into the minds of our captains.

I asked each of our captains the same three questions, and then one unique question related to the captain or their team.

Common Questions:

1. Now that we’re past the halfway point of the season, how do you think your team is performing relative to how you thought your team was going to do?

BlueSquid: I thought that dux and ocho were going to be huge sleeper picks and I had them high on my draft board. Things are going pretty much as I expected.

Kite: OVERPERFORMING. THE HAS BEENS SHOULD BE WINLESS … BUT SOMETIMES ITS THE SPIRIT THAT DIES LAST.

CJ: 10/10.

Crusty: I think we are doing better than I thought, we definitely have areas to improve but we exceeded my expectations. Everyone on the team showed up at different times.

Sin: I knew from the beginning we had a very strong team and it took a couple games for us to SINergize. While we had a slow start, I think we’re starting to reveal our potential. We still have an opportunity for first seed and I’m looking forward to our match against Squid Inc.

Jeff: Yea the team is playing great, prism and mouton are really good. I’m getting more comfortable coming into the new age of the meta. Last season I probably called plays like less than half the time so this year we have plays called over 95% of the time. It’s cool learning from prism and having a dependable group of guys.

2. What has been the highlight of your season so far?

BlueSquid: Ocho QB

Kite: LEGALIZING HAIL MARY C3 (editor’s note: lol)

CJ: Probably hitting Tony in stride after moving the wraith during a play on 4th down for a touchdown.

Crusty: BENJAMINBATMAN going off after the win vs DangeRuss.

Sin: The highlight for me this season has been watching WCK’s technical catches/blocks, 2v2 jump-balls, unlimited fumbles and the number of throws that were open but snuck on by my QB.

Jeff: I would say holding CJ to 7 completions. There has been 2-3 games that should have been a W and that was one of them. Other highlight would be the sneak on Devin, but Devin doesn’t talk crap (in front of me) so I wouldn’t rank that #1.

3. What was the toughest experience you guys experienced?

Bluesquid: After losing to Underdawgs there was discussion around whether my visual impairment was fake, but after the next game my team saw my usual consistency and play and that was enough for me

Kite: GETTING FUCKED BY THE “RNG” OF THE GAME EVERY TIME THE HAS BEENS START TO SHOW SOME FLASHES OF THE PAST (THEIR PRIME) AND HAVING TO PLAY VS JOKES WHO TAKE THE RETRO ASPECT OF THIS GAME TOO SERIOUSLY AND STILL PLAY ON A DIAL UP CONNECTION.

CJ: I agreed to a bad game where all the odds and favors were against us. While this was a tough experience, it also helped expose some internal problems with the team.

Crusty: For me personally was not blocking the throw to dux on 4th down. With that block we either tie or win the game with the ball on the 20.

Sin: While we have great players, we all have different play styles. It took us some time to figure out our defense and build Lemno’s M. Understanding how we play and learning to accommodate and make changes accordingly was probably the toughest. Some say we still fight till this day.

Jeff: Just the missed field goals and missed tackles, that’s probably the toughest thing. It breaks the team apart a bit, Prism is used to tier 1 Dux and tier 1 Ocho and truthfully Mouton is really solid and def high tier 2 but I am def tier 3 when it comes to some basic items, so that’s frustrating in game and challenging. Especially when it’s near the goal line.

Personal Questions to the Captains:

BlueSquid Question: You wanted to be in control of your destiny this season, with yourself at QB, how do you feel like that’s shaping up? Did you expect to be the #1 team come Week 6?

BlueSquid Answer: I think it’s shaping up great, I think I am a decent T2 QB that can be carried with the right players, I honestly thought that Lemnos team would be the #1 team before the season started and it seems like he is getting into that form right now

Kite Question: I don’t think anyone really expected you to be currently last in the standings, but you still have a chance and have had some tight games. In your eyes, what is your team’s best lineup after 4-5 weeks of the League?

Kite Answer: WHO YOU TRYING TO FOOL? ALL YOU JOKES HAVE BEEN SCHEMIN ON THE HAS BEENS DOWNFALL SINCE DAY 1 AND THEY’RE GETTING THEIR WISH SO FAR. IF IT AINT UNDERPERFORMING LIKE TRUE HAS BEENS, ITS THE CURTIS CURSE AND THE HARVEY RAGE SANTERIA HOLDING US BACK. ANY LINE UP WITH T.O. , PHIN WALKER, AND A STONED OUT OF HIS MIND SMITH HAS CONSISTENTLY PROVIDED SOLID DEFENSIVE OUTPUT, JUST ENOUGH OFFENSIVE PROWESS , AND A SHITLOAD OF CONSISTENTLY UNLUCKY FUCKERY SO I THINK WE’LL STICK WITH THAT.

SOMETIMES IN FANTASY FOOTBALL YOU HAVE A SEASON WHERE NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOUR TEAM IS, THE OTHER TEAM YOU’RE UP AGAINST SOMEHOW MANAGES TO HAVE ALL THE LUCK ON THEIR SIDE AND SOMEHOW END UP PUTTING UP RIDICULOUS NUMBERS. THATS KINDA HOW THIS IS. WHAT CAN I SAY. EVERY JOKE HAS ITS DAY (SHOUTOUTS CURTIS AS LIVING PROOF OF THIS). (editor’s note, God, it’s hard to read all caps)

CJ Question: Your team started hot right off the bat, 3-0 and then dropped the next 2 games. You’re at 3-2, but it’s a good time to sit back, take a breather, and realize you’re right in it the thick of the playoff seeding. Will you possibly make a big change in the next couple of weeks? Or will you buckle down and just keep pushing forward?

CJ Answer: Yes, we are making a big change trading Portis for Romo and buckling down with our team.

Crusty Question: Many of your games come down to the wire, probably due to your conservative and slow play calling. Do you think you’re doing enough to be considered a top tier QB for this season?

Crusty Answer: Absafuckinglutely. All the QBs have been playing this game over a decade except me and squid. And, we are top fucking two baby.

Sin Question: Your team started off 0-2 and it wasn’t looking pretty. What did you guys need to do to turn things around?

Sin Answer: WCK and I had a pretty good conversation about maintaining and building on Lemnos’ M all while providing constructive feedback. Reminding Lem when he’s nervous and calming him down letting him know that it’s okay if the plays didn’t work out was likely our main difference maker from week 2 and 3 onwards.

Jeff Question: You have all the pieces but can’t quite fit them together. What do you need to do to turn things around? Do you need to have Mouton QB? Split time with him? Or, do you think you can be receptive to advice you’ve been receiving?

Jeff Answer: To turn things around I think it’s just continuing to play my style while getting comfortable with play calling designing and roll patterns. I used to just set wraith let CJ get to it and have RB lure and catch icons, and that just doesn’t work anymore.
We told mouton to warm up, but prism wants me to keep QBing – we have put on some really efficient drives there past few games just haven’t come out with a W.

Yea advice being given is great, my roll patterns have improved greatly, the play style and calls have improved, the timing needs improvement, the sneaking when we need to has been good. A lot of things have been working, just need to put it all together and play a complete game.

Definitely feel like I’m going from a meme QB to a well balanced QB, I stopped leaning on the run since coming back to blitz but now we are going to pressure teams with running more simply because I’m just good at it.

We’re in the final stretch of the season folks, with a playoff race that is completely up in the air and a multitude of storylines. Good luck the rest of the way everyone![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
