Episode 17 – Navigating the Blitz with DuXoR

Could you please introduce yourself and share one lesser-known fact about you that might surprise your fans?
Hello my name is DuXoR. Some may know me as umadbrehh or umud from haxball. It may surprise you to find out that I am a Virgin.

What games do you enjoy playing on Starcraft? How about non-Starcraft games?
I enjoy most UMS games. Defenses, braindead RPGs, sports games, dodge maps, bounds. Anything that requires me to be an APM monkey is a plus. Non-starcraft games wise, I enjoy a good oldschool MapleStory private server once every year or two, an occasional awful haxball pub, Stardew Valley with Her, and random assorted steam games that my friends wish to play. I stay away from shooters.

How did you discover NFL Blitz? What about the game and/or community is most exciting to you?
My memory has always been trash but I believe Ocho originally showed it to me a couple years ago. I don’t recall if we got a full game going but I truly had no idea what was happening and he didn’t do a very good job of explaining it. Years later prism said something in a discord about a NFL blitz league and I didn’t have much going on so I was interested. The community is probably what keeps me coming back. Between the old haxballers like WCK, mouton, ocho, and prism, and all the new unhinged people I get to meet. Something about these old dead games really brings out the mentally ill and I’m always here for it.

It seems you, Prism, and Ocho share a strong bond. Can you describe how your relationship developed and what you value most about each of them, as well as any challenges you’ve faced together?
Ocho and I go way back to sometime in 2012. We were part of the infamous “Skype Crew” of haxball(Shoutout Gucci, Rev, Isinar, Gooner, c4v, Greg). We never played on a team together back then because he was always terrible compared to me but he was always around. I went AFK for a few years and randomly logged into skype in 2018 and had a message from someone with a discord link. After that many of us reconnected. Gatz was very disappointed in my return, expecting me to be a multimillionaire with a beautiful wife and kids. Prism was very different. I remember some of his antics on SPHB, such as buying ads to free himself when he was banned, but other than that we did not cross paths or talk much in haxball days. I always found his argumentative nature hilarious though. I admire Ochos child-like nature but also his extremely competitive spirit. I admire Prisms dedication to the craft. I believe he was one of those dedicated haxball players that would write up positioning and strategy ideas. The biggest challenge me and Ocho faced was the great waifu debacle of 2022.

This season we have seen significant improvement in not only your gameplay but also your strategic approach to the game. What do you attribute to your personal development and enhanced growth?
I think just playing a lot of pubs and taking little tidbits from everyone. Most of blitz can’t be explained in a few sentences. It’s just a lot of spacing and timing, and that knowledge comes from lots of reps. Ocho taught me everything I know.

On opening night this season, you delivered a historic performance with 6 touchdown receptions and a team high of 60 points. Can you describe the key factors that contributed to your team’s dominance that evening and why the game seemed so effortless?
I think the key factor was the other team throwing up 7 ints to prism. I can’t wait for 10 V Young to be my QB next season.

While you may be under the tutelage of S)s(L and HoF legends, I have personally witnessed your leadership this season as captain of the Toronto Triple Triples. Not only do you manage your team of big personalities, you have also brought calming techniques to Cutler and provided wisdom to the young Sinner. What makes you such an effective leader in your locker room and do you think they could have achieved the same success this season without you?
I have been telling Ocho for years that I am at Peace and I think he finally believes it now. I think being new and not really having many expectations for myself was very helpful in being a captain. Also, it’s easy to deal with strong personalities when you’re winning every game. If we had a losing season it may have been a bit more of a handful. As for Cutler and Prism, they definitely need a moderator between them when they are on the same team. There is a lot of discussion after each play and they need to be kept on task. Sin fits in perfectly and I’m glad I sighed him. I think they would have had similar success with Prism QB but I think I helped bring out the best in Cutty and Ocho.

The debate for the Season 2 Offensive Player of the Year is heating up with contenders like CJ, Wck, and yourself. How do you view this award and your competition, and what distinguishes you in the race?
I think this is a better question for Ocho and CJ. Give it to WCK though, he’s an angel…

As you await the outcome of the first round of the playoffs, you may face Phoenix D, Huevo Picantes, or the Monopoly Men. What are your thoughts on these potential opponents, and if given the choice, which team would you prefer to face in the second round?
I think it’d be fun to go against Jeff QB again. A chance to redeem himself after the game 1 clown fiesta.

Lastly, if you could propose a change for next season, whether it’s an adjustment to the in-game mechanics or the league format, what would it be and why?
I think a disruption web where the blitzer usually stands would be amazing. Other than that everything is perfect, just like Her… P*
